I hope you have experienced a beautiful Christmas filled with reminders of the hope Jesus brings into each of our lives. I want to share a tiny slice of how we’ve seen God move here over the past year.
First, I cannot think of a better year to come to Chaparral and be your pastor. Seriously – pandemic and all! This year has been stressful, frustrating, and disappointing for so many of us, but I know it is a mere drop in the bucket of God’s grand story. While some things have changed quite a bit, others haven’t changed at all. We are here to join in God’s mission to transform the world by doing our part through making disciples of our families, friends, and neighbors. The events of 2020 might have changed how we go about doing this, but it hasn’t changed that simple truth.
We’re on a great trajectory. Here’s a snapshot of what we’ve been able to accomplish in 2020:
- More than 20 brand new people joined a Group at Chaparral
- We launched 5 brand new groups
- 200 Christmas stockings made for Arizona Reservation Ministries
- 10 people stepped up to be tel-a-pals with those in assisted living during lockdown
- We held Parking Lot Services in August (and I sweat through the entire thing…)
- 84 meals for homeless families were provided through Family Promise
Next year we plan to double our involvement with Family Promise, lead a mission trip to Haiti, and plan many more opportunities to spread the good news of Jesus. Your involvement and your contributions are making an impact right here in Scottsdale and Phoenix. This is what it looks like to be a disciple of Jesus – someone who sacrifices their own wants and needs for the good of others. I’m proud of you for being a part of this.
Finally, I want to give you a quick update about our giving initiative, Above & Beyond. We have much to celebrate as it appears (at the time of the writing of this letter) we are going to hit our $150,000 target! 50% of every dollar that comes in over that total will be donated to our local and global missions partners because we are a church who gives generously.
Your generous and sacrificial hearts are making a huge difference here and around the world! If you’d like to find a way to give, you can go online to chaparral.org/give where we have several non-traditional options listed. You can also donate in-person at one of our services or mail a donation – just make sure to have it postmarked before the end of the year if you’re looking to have it qualify as a 2020 donation!
Thank you for your serving hearts, let us know how we can serve you well. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year! We’ll see you again in 2021.
Austin Martin, Lead Pastor
